Think Week in Oxford

Simon Myerson introduces a series of events from Oxford humanist, secular and skeptical societies.

22nd-28th February will be Think Week in Oxford.

The Oxford Atheist SocietyOxford Secular SocietyOxford HumanistsOxford Sea of Faith and Oxford Skeptics in the Pub will host a series of high-profile free events featuring religious and non-religious speakers.

We don’t want to convert people, just to make people aware of non-religious perspectives, promote mutual understanding, and have a rational debate about the secular life. For Oxford residents, this is also great opportunity to see the kinds of events these societies offer.

We’ll have talks on philosophy, education, and current affairs by religious and non-religious speakers, as well as music and poetry.

There will be speakers including Andrew Copson, Chief Executive of the BHA, Evan Harris MP, philosopher  Dr Stephen Law (author of The Philosophy Gym) and scientist and writer Peter Atkins.

The week is being organised by several Oxford City-based groups as well as two student societies. The week will finish with the AHS Conference, which will see student societies from across the country convening in Oxford.

More details are available at www.thinkweek.co.uk.

Simon Myerson is one of the organisers of Think Week.

  1. Does this mean that on other weeks people in Oxford don’t think?
Maybe they only dream, of lost causes.
