Bishops to “step outside the blame game”
That’s nice of them, but isn’t it the Church hierarchy that is indeed being blamed?
Today’s statement marks an important step towards healing. The bishops of England and Wales will be making the starkest expression yet of their sorrow. Just as a decade ago they pioneered child safety with two reports and strict guidelines, so today they will step outside the blame game and offer repentance for the unacceptable betrayals of trust that occurred, time and again, and the cover-ups that allowed the betrayals to continue.

Perhaps instead of offering repentance, the pope would offer up the perverts and their accomplices who tried their best to cover up the sickening rapes of children by moving the offenders to pastures new to abuse again and again to the police instead?
